The gift of giving
Have you ever wondered why (or how) you give something to someone? It could be something you bought, something you give away, a helping hand, a listening ear, a service you make to someone, etc. What is the intention behind that gesture?
I have noticed a few:
- It makes me feel good about myself.
- I will have a credit with this person.
- With this, we are even / I have repaid my “energetical debt”
- It doesn’t serve me anymore, but I don’t want to throw it away, so I “place it” with somebody else.
- It doesn’t serve me anymore, but I know somebody that would appreciate it.
- It brings joy to my heart.
- I see your need and I can provide something for it.
- etc.
Each of the above sentences carries a vibration of its own. Sometimes it’s easy to act in the way we have seen in our family or close environment, without actually asking ourselves why giving in “this” way.
Once we start observing the feeling that “giving” produces inside of us, we actually start noticing the thin energetical lines that we are responsible for creating and, as a consequence, the world mirrors back to us.
When we give, we receive the opportunity to choose:
- Will this act create more entanglement, or will it create more freedom?
- Will it add another thread to the clutter of unspoken expectations, or will it become an expression of trust, gratitude and abundance?
The choice is always in our hands.
There is nothing wrong with discovering our motivations. This is the gift of giving: awareness itself.
You may begin by giving in order to receive appreciation. And that’s okay. The moment you become aware of it, something shifts and the giving becomes more honest. And from honesty, generosity, beauty and love flourish.
Every act of giving shapes both the world around us and the world within us.
What shape do you choose today?
