The first thought
What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you wake up?
I have noticed that the more aware you become of that first thought that comes to your mind the moment you wake up, the more chances you have of living your whole day in awareness.
About 20 years ago, somebody asked me how I would define meditation. I said that, in my experience, meditation is done at every moment of your life. Everything that you emit is a form of meditation. The more aware you are of every moment, the more refined the meditation is.
I remember this moment because the answer surprised me (and the person who asked). It just went out of my mouth. I come back very often to it and discover new and new layers of depth.
This morning, for example, I realized the importance of the first morning thought. It has the power of directing your whole day. And your awareness of it makes it more or less “in charge”.
